Alan Grayson Courts Show Biz Donors in Bid to Win Back Congressional Seat

by Ilene Proctor

Alan Grayson became a star of the progressive left with his outspoken statements in Congress and many appearances on shows like "Real Time with Bill Maher."  He was voted out of office in the Republican wave last year, but now he's seeking a return to Congress, and with it is raising money from Hollywood and Los Angeles donors.

On Nov. 12, he'll be at a fundraiser at the home of Jerry and Jan Manpearl, with actor and comedian Rick Overton moderating. Those on the list of supporters include Ed Asner, Michelle Phillips, John Heard, Norman Lear, Elliott Gould, Ed Begley Jr., Mike Farrell, Peter Coyote and Lila Garrett. Publicist Ilene Proctor is producing the event.

Contributions start at $100 (discount for members of certain progressive orgs), with sponsors at $1,000, cohosts at $2,500 and co-chairs at $5,000. An "exclusive sit down dinner" with Grayson and AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka is priced starting at $1,000.
